Introduction To The Department Of Ethnology

     Ethnology Department of Chongqing Three Gorges University is the only teaching and research Unit among the universities in Chongqing . Ethnology study is also one of the main construction subjects in Chongqing Three Gorges University . Our department focuses on the service of Three Gorges area, western China and all over the country to train the local high quality students of Ethnology study with full developing in morality, wisdom, physical and esthetics, etc.
     Ethnology Department of Chongqing Three Gorges University was created in 2002 consisting of ethnology undergraduate education, preparatory, institute of ethnology studies with a professional datum center of ethnology research. Now this department has about 250 students, including undergraduates and preparatory. This department also has an excellent group of faculty consisted of nine professional teachers and one Ph.D sponsored by the university, two professors, one vice professor, one vice researcher, six professor assistants; two Ph.D, three Masters, three masters on study. Dr. Renda Dong, the dean and Prof. Baoshan Tong, the secretary of communist party are both the director members of China Ethnology Academy . Among the above faculty, two teachers won the prize of Zengxianzi Educational Fund. Furthermore, this department has also especially employed seven professors from the well known scholars in the famous universities such as China Central University for Nationalities, etc.
      Ethnology Department of Chongqing Three Gorges University has been provided strong abilities on teaching and research. The 13 monographs, translations and 150 compositions such as textual research on Chinese Names, In Unknown China, The research on Chongqing Ethnologic economy and culture resources, The research on Christianity Missionary on the border of Yunnan , Guizhou and Sichuan Province have been published. This department also joined two main projects of Literae Humaniores and Social Science Key Research Base. Now this department takes on one research project from Chongqing Educational Department and 4 projects of Chongqing Three Gorges University .
     During the process of training advanced practical talents of Ethnology, based on the idea of focusing on students, we have carried out several ability training projects, such as undergraduate tutors, semester thesis writing, employment and preparing the candidate test of post-graduate education. It's glad to see that we have been returned by our efforts. More and more students in ethnology department have passed the band 4 of College English and the rate of setting up projects in the university Challenging Cup Competition has come out top.

    Training Plan of Undergraduate Ethnology Major Talents
    A•  The Training Goal
    We are aimed to cultivate the advanced practical talents, who meet the need of China socialism modernization construction and future social development, high quality on political training, good development on morality, wisdom, physical, esthetics, etc. with healthy personality. Such students also need to master rich major academic knowledge, skilled field working technology to be talents full of strong practice ability and rich creation spirit.
     After graduation, the students could carry on the management and research work in the field of civil service, national religion, journalism, cultural relic, city and rural economy exploitation, tourism, public relationships, social service, etc.
     The jobs fit to the graduates are as follows: government agency in nationalities, religions, national administration, emigrant efforts, tourism, relic, museum, etc; related policy research agency, education, social association, enterprise public relationship, planning, management and secretary, etc.
     B. The Requirement of Specific Training
      1. Ideology Training
      Through 4 -year study, the graduates should master the basic principles of Marxism; form steady socialism collective ideality; be firm in patriotism ideality with maintaining homeland unity and nationality solidarity; set up right life philosophy, world view and life value. The graduates also will have good morality and professional morality culture to be able to orient the life goal according to their own situation.
       2. Well-grounded Major knowledge Training
       Through 4- year study, the graduates should obtain well-grounded theoretic knowledge; ethnology basic theoretic and knowledge. Basic ability of ethnology investigation, analyzing method, as well as the ability of verbal and writing expression. The graduates also will have certain ability of creative thinking and ethnology research and know the related policy concerning minorities. Furthermore, the graduates should understand the most important research and developing orientation of the ethnology fields all over the world. Finally, the graduates will master the basic method of literature searches, information search, sample investigation, etc.
      3. Enhanced Integrated Ability
      The graduates will have stronger practice ability, enlarged knowledge, higher culture ability and brave awareness of creation. The graduates also should master at least one foreign language to read major foreign language books and have certain ability of listening, speaking and writing ability. The graduates must meet the standard of computer operation and national language speaking regulated by Chongqing Three Gorges University . Full development both on morality, wisdom, physical and esthetics. Master the basic idea and method of dealing with public relationship to have initial social practice ability of communication, negotiation, cooperation and promoted decision-making. The graduates will be practical and realistic to know the science methods, to have stronger thinking, writing and verbal expression ability as well as stronger ability of joining social activity and research. The graduates should also combine the idea with the practice during the management, exploitation and research to look for problems, search rules and finally find the solutions.
